This is a fake company created for the purpose of designing this logo.

This logo design was for a fake cattery building company. I started off by accidentally making a geometric cat and created whole logo and company from there. I thought of a cattery, or cat housing in general, because of the constructed style of the cat blocks. Very reminiscent of stain glass windows. Originally, the different coloured line underneath the cat was just something to perch the cat on, but I added more shapes to turn it into a pencil, keeping it as simple as possible.

I chose the name Robertson Cattery as a random name that came to mind. The style of the word Cattery is carried over from the cat, spacing the gaps accordingly. The 'Y' is slanted to pull the focus back towards the rest of the design and to create a smoother block going down with the lettering gaps. The black and the white colouring was there from the get go, but the third colour took some thinking. I decided on orange due to the construction linkage, its frequent use in pet store related branding, and the warm, familiar feeling of the colour,  like a cozy cat in a new cattery.

This project was the first proper use of Inkscape, instead of my usual use of Adobe Illustrator. While there are still many differences to get my head around, it was simple enough to work with.
